What to Expect at TCAP

We look forward to helping you and your pet. If you’ve never been to one of our locations, we want you to feel comfortable that by coming to TCAP, you’ve made the right decision for you and your pet! At TCAP, we are pet lovers first! To ensure that both you and your pet have an excellent experience, we would like to let you know what to expect before you arrive.

At TCAP, we value our relationship with you and your pet. We work very hard to provide a quality service in an efficient, affordable manner. TCAP is not a full service hospital and while we work to provide excellent care, we refer many issues to full service veterinary hospitals throughout North Texas. We carry quality products from well-known manufacturers at our clinics. Our goal is not to replace your relationship with your full service veterinarian.  TCAP exists to provide services to those who are indigent and cannot afford to obtain services for their pets anywhere else.

Surgery Admission (Spays/Neuters or Dentals)

  1. All transport locations and remote clinics (clinics not at TCAP’s Denton, Fort Worth, Hurst, Allen, Burleson, or Weatherford facility) require all pets to be brought in hard-sided pet carriers.
  2. When you arrive to drop off your pet for surgery, please be prepared for a 10-20 minute wait. There will be other pets being dropped off at this time. Appointments are required for surgeries, declaws, and dentals. At TCAP we work on a first-come-first-serve basis, and we will do our best to expedite the process to shorten your wait time.
  3. Upon your arrival it is important that you join the line (if one has formed) and fill out your paperwork while you wait so we can see clients and their pets in a timely manner. Your wait will be most efficient for you if you have all paperwork completed by the time you reach our front desk. We have basic forms for you to complete that allow two pets per form.
  4. All pets must have written proof of a current rabies vaccine or receive the vaccine at the time of surgery for an additional $5.00. Unfortunately, tags do not work as proof of vaccines.
  5. If you have a female pet, please be advised that additional fees will apply if your pet is in heat or pregnant. These additional fees are assigned because spays done when a pet is in heat or pregnant are much more time consuming and require additional suture materials. If your pet is actively bleeding, she will be declined for surgery at that time. To find more information on what fees may apply to your pet, please refer to the area titled “Fees and Items Available for Purchase”.
  6. During surgical admission, you will have the opportunity to elect for your pet to receive other vaccines, heartworm testing and prevention, microchipping, an Elizabeth collar and take home pain medications for an additional fee. None of these items is required, but all are offered to you for the benefit of your pet.
  7. TCAP veterinary staff will deny pets for sterilization that are less than 2 lbs or more than 80 lbs for surgery. Due to special diagnostic and anesthetic needs, TCAP does not perform surgery or dental cleanings on English Bulldogs. This declination of service is for a pet’s well-being and these pets are referred to local, full-service hospitals. Additionally, pets with pre-existing health conditions will be declined for their safety.
  8. In order to save our customers money, TCAP does not bundle our services. Each service is priced individually, therefore the only price you are required to pay is for your pet’s sterilization, rabies vaccine (if required) and any complication fees. Additional pain medications, antibiotics and e-collars are available for purchase for an additional fee at the time of surgery. These are suggested, but they are not required.
  9. If you are bringing a feral cat for sterilization, the cat must be in a live trap, have its ear tipped and receive a rabies vaccine to qualify for our feral cat program. You can learn more about TCAP’s feral cat program here (Feral Cat Program). If you plan to bring more than 4 feral cats, you must make an appointment prior to visiting our clinic.
  10. TCAP does not offer surgeries on the last Wednesday of each month.
  11. Once your paperwork is completed, you will pay either with cash, credit or a pre-approved voucher from one of our shelter partners if you have recently adopted a pet.
  12. You will receive a ½ sheet of paper that gives you some basic information for the post-operative care of your pet before you leave our offices.

Vaccination Hours

  1. Vaccine clinic hours are from 9:00am – 12:00pm at our stand alone clinic locations in Allen, Burleson, Denton, Hurst, and Fort Worth. During our travel days to area community locations and animal shelters, we offer vaccines from 10:00am – 12:00pm. Please be prepared for a 20-30 minute wait during vaccine clinic hours. At TCAP we work on a first-come-first-serve basis. We do our best to provide quick, quality care to every animal we see to help reduce this wait time. Your wait will be most efficient for you if you have all paperwork completed by the time you reach our front desk. We have basic forms for you to complete that allow two pets per form.
  2. Once your paperwork is completed, you will pay either with cash, credit or a pre-approved voucher from one of our shelter partners if you have recently adopted a pet.
  3. To allow our veterinarians time to address any surgeries we have scheduled for the day, all surgery pets are checked in for their surgery before we begin low cost vaccines. We do our best to begin vaccines on time, but sometimes we start a little later than stated times due to surgery check-in.
  4. A number is provided on the back of your receipt to call if your pet has any issue that causes you concern post-vaccination. Vaccine reactions are not common, but they can happen. It is important to monitor your pet post-vaccination.
  5. You and your pet(s) may have to wait outside, in line to be seen. During Spring and Summer months when the weather is hot, overheating of people and pets is a serious health concern. Please be aware of this concern, especially for older pets, and pets that are in crates and prepare yourself and your pet(s) accordingly.

Additional Fees

  • Pain medication (24hr injection and take home): $15
  • Ecollar: $10
  • Antibiotics (only available if recommended by the vet): $15
  • There is an additional $10 fee for in season females.
  • There is an additional $20-$40 fee for pregnant females. When a female pet is spayed while pregnant, the pregnancy is terminated.
  • There is an additional $20-$40 fee for males that only have one testicle descended.
  • There is an additional $20 fee for extended surgery if your pet requires additional, specialized care (some causes would be obesity, tumors, and other unknown issues found at the time of surgery)

Surgery Check-Out

  1. When you arrive to pick up your pet, be prepared for a 10-20 minute wait. There will be other pets being picked up at this time. At TCAP we work on a first-come-first-serve basis, and we will do our best to expedite the process to shorten your wait time.
  2. Our staff will review all post-operative care with you at the time of pick-up. You are welcome to ask any questions at this time about the care of your pet.
  3. Your pet will be fully awake at the time of pickup. Dogs will walk to the car, and cats will be safely awake in their cages. Please look at your pet closely at the time of check out. Incision sites are usually very small. Please look at the incision at the time of check out so you can more adequately monitor your pet post-surgery.
  4. You will receive a page of post-operative care instructions at the time of pickup to review when you get home. If you have any questions about your pet, you are welcome to ask the staff or call our client care coordinator at 940-395-4306.
